Skewness
It is the comparison of the mean, median and mode can reveal information about the characteristics of skewness.
Definition
The distribution of the data is skewed if the data is not symmetric and it extends more to one side than the other. (A distribution of data is symmetric if the left half of its histogram is roughly the mirror image of its right half.)
Type of skewness
- Skewed to the left (Negatively Skewed):
The mean and median both lies to the left of the mode.
- Symmetric (which is Zero Skewness):
The median, mean and mode remains the same.
- Skewed towards the right (Positively Skewed):
The mean and median both lies to the right of the mode.
