Read the following incident, "Men's Night" at the Golf Club.
Q: If you were Shayna, what, if anything, would you do to deal with this situation? Explain.
Men's Night at the Golf Club
Shayna, a black woman, accepted a position at the Dallas Star as News Editor. She was informed of a comprehensive employee benefits package, which included health insurance, life insurance, paid vacations and holidays, and sick leave, among other things. Later, she found out that her male colleagues also had a membership to the local, private golf and country club, which was worth $1,100. When she asked Chad, her white male boss, about it, he told her that women typically had not been offered that benefit because two nights per week were "men's nights" at the golf and country club. His rationale was that giving her that benefit would not make much sense because the club's policy did not allow women two nights of the week anyway. Shayna's boss offered to extend the golf and country club membership to Shayna's husband.
