Sialons
Mixture of silicon nitride, aluminium nitride and alumina is hot pressed to acquire a product largely called as sialon. In the resulting product the structure has partially aluminium substituted for oxygen and silicon for nitrogen. Such product has better properties than silicon nitride. The compacted mixture is more sintered in presence of densifying constituents. The sintered material is dense along with reduced porosity and enhances strength close to 400 MPa. Mixture of silicon and alumina can be nitrided and sintered to acquire the same product. Sialons are increasingly being utilized at high speeds as like abrading tool in manufacturing processes.
