Shear force and bending moment diagrams

Question 1: What do you mean by the point of contra flexure? How many points of contra flexure you will have for simply supported beam overhanging at one end only.

Question 2: An overhanging beam has a span L between supports and the overhanging is as well L. It carries a UDL of 20 kN/m, over its entire length. If L = 4m, find out the maximum bending moment.

Question 3: A 6 m long cantilever carries loads of 2 kN and 3 kN at 2m and 5m correspondingly from fixed end and a UDL of 10 kN/m over its whole length. Draw the shear force and bending moment diagrams.

Question 4: A simply supported beam has a span of 5 m and carries a UDL of 20kN/m in the left half and a UDL of 40 kN/m in the right half of its length. Draw the SF and BM diagrams and find out the position and magnitude of maximum BM in the beam.

Question 5: A simply supported beam of 9m span carries a load, uniformly varying from zero at the left end to 84kN/m at the right end. Draw the SF and BM diagrams. Find out the position and magnitude of the maximum bending moment in the beam.

Question 6: Find out the moment resistance of a square section of 50 mm size, used with a side horizontal if the permissible stress is 120 N/mm2 in tension and compression.

Question 7: A wooden semicircular log of 20 cm radius is employed as a beam over a span of 2m. Find out the section moduli of the section.
