Question 1

As you have discovered throughout your accounting education, tax law is always changing. For this very reason, many accountants choose not to practice tax. Even if you opt out of a tax practice, what are your thoughts about staying current on the laws? How does tax law affect an accountant practicing in industry?

Respond to this...If you're a public accountant with your own practice, I'd think that being current on tax laws is a must since I assume that most of the business conducted is tax preparation. It is probably discouraging to public accountant when they see stats of 27 million taxpayers have filed their own tax returns from home computers which is an increase 6% compared to last (IRS, 2014).

The proposed new tax plan would affect large tax preparation services like H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt would lose business. It seems that Wall Street agrees. H&R Block's stock has dropped more than 8 percent after releasing its earning last month, with some of that decline being attributed to tax reform (Marks, 2017).

Besides tax reform that will affect tax preparers and accountants it will be advances in technology. So, I think accountants should learn more specialized aspects of accounting.

Question 2

The Harlem Renaissance literary changed the way that African-Americans perceived their experiences. The literature in particular was a powerful tool that was used to enlighten the masses. It was the first time in history in which African-American writers began to embrace their cultural differences and lament about topics like slavery, segregation, and many other issues that surrounded Black life in America.

Share your impressions of one of the writers this week from the Harlem Renaissance. Which literary genre(s) does your chosen writer write in? Does he or she have a particular style and/or pursue themes that are characteristic of "The Harlem Renaissance?" What strikes you about a certain phrase or thought?

Respond to this...One of the writers I enjoyed learning more about was Zora Neale Hurston, although according to the insert she died little and forgotten and this has to be far from the truth. She is to be relevant to have had her name mentioned and I have heard this name and I am familiar with her novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, her style is drama. I feel her style is similar to "The Harlem Renaissance" as her style is edgy, influential and brought cultural awaking. When I think of this written work, I feel it is brilliant as she touched on things that she saw or witnessed. This novel was published in 1937 and she had a voice on racism, love, hate, gossip, death and life. Other poets that influenced this era was Alice Walker and Langston Hues among others that were bold and brilliant.
