SEX DIFFERENTIATION MECHANISM -
- Primitive gonads are identical in both sexes upto 6 weeks of gestation pressure.
- This gonad is known as bipotential primordial gonad. It is differentiated into cortex and medulla.
- Formation & devlopment of gonad is gonadogenesis.
- In male devlopement of testes is controlled by Y-chromosome.
- Testicular differentiation begins in the 7th week of gestation.
- Differentiation of ovaries occur later in female in comparision to male or testes. It begins int he 11th or 12rh week of gestation under control of XX chromosomes.
- Testes descend down in scrotum in 7th - 8th month. Ext. genitilia appear in male by the 5th month.
