Setting contract periods and expiration dates are some of those non-wage issues important in negotiations as shown in the New York City transit strike. While many thought the inconvenience to the public would overwhelmingly disfavor the transit workers' position, the public's response to the strike was mixed. Consider the poll of the public at different points in the strike, particularly the response to elected officials.
