Systems Analysis and Design
Assessment - Case study
This case study assesses students' ability to apply theoretical learning to practical, real world situations. In this assessment students, must form project groups of 3 to 4 students. Each group must prepare a report answering the questions related to the case study tasks.
The Tasks
You have to read the Sydney Group (SG) Medical System case study and answer the followings:
1. Identify and briefly describe data structure type at the SG.
2. Select the apparated data modelling method to explain and draw the entities relationship at SG using standard notations.
3. Based on the project requirements and scope, discuss whether the project schedule is reasonable? Why or why not?
4. In your opinion and based on project requirements which type of systems development methodology more suit for the new system development. Justify your answer.
5. Discuss in detail the activities required at each phase of the selected methodology for developing the project.
6. Propose and explain four types of techniques, models and tools can be used to support the activities and tasks of SMS development.
7. Suppose you are the IT director at the iTech, and you want to hire a joiner systems analyst. The person of this position will support other senior systems analysts on the iTech projects. Write an advertisement that would appear in the local newspapers and online. In this advertisement, you should list desired skills, experience, and educational requirements.
Case Study: Sydney Group (SG) Medical System
Sydney Group (SG) medical centre has a number of registered doctors. Attributes of DOCTORS include Doctor ID and Specialty. Patients are admitted to the centre by doctors.
The attributes of patient include Patient ID and Patient name. Any patient who is admitted should have exactly one admitted doctor. A doctor may optionally admit any number of patient. Once a patient admitted, the patient must be treated by at least one doctor.
Any doctor may treat any number of patient or may not treat any patient. For documentation requirements, the SG centre wants to record the details of the treatment including date, time, and results.
The SG manger propose a project to develop a new software application for medical system with the help of iTech center. Project staff will include analyst, designer, programmer and tester from both centres. Two technical staff members from each centre have been assigned initially. Two software developers will assign to develop the programs using OOP.
In addition, one-part time nurse will assign from the medical centre. The project has to consider the followings:
- Allow doctor, nurse, receptionist and management staff at the SG to view patient history and schedule appointments using any computer inside or outside the centre.
- Upgrade the centre webpage to allow the patients to book online for seeing any doctor.
- Develop a mobile application using android studio that allow patients to pay bills and book online.
The SG and iTech anticipate a four-month development schedule for an initial version of the server's applications and mobile based client-side application. There month period for the design and code development and finally one months for the testing.
