Satellite motion

Question 1: Compute the speed of the moon in its orbit around the earth. (Radius of orbit 3.85 x 108 m and mass of moon 7.4 x 1022 kg).

Question 2: Compute the speed of a satellite orbiting the earth at a height of 4.4 x 105 m on the earth’s surface.

Question 3: Compute the orbital speed of a satellite 5.0 x 106 m above the surface of Jupiter. (RJ = 7.18 x 107m and mJ = 1.90 x 1027 kg)

Question 4: Compute the speed of earth in its orbit around the sun. (Radius of earth’s orbit 1.49 x 1011 m, mass of sun 1.98 x 1030 kg).

Question 5: Compute the time of one year on Mars by setting the centripetal force and gravitational force equal to one other. (mM = 6.4 x 1023 kg, mS = 2.0 x 1030, rmarsorbit = 2.3 x 1011 m).

Question 6: By using Kepler’s Laws, compute the time of one year on Mars.
