Role of nursing in research analysis for improving practice

Assignment task:

Research Outcomes Management For The Practicing Nurse

Summative Assessment: Ethical Issues in Research

The role of nursing in research analysis for improving practice environments and patient outcomes cannot be understated. As you might be aware, research outcomes play a major role in evidence-based nursing practice. You will be formulating research questions; collecting, summarizing, and interpreting data; and understanding the elements of research design.

For this assessment, you must first develop a research proposal using the research question you developed by completing the Research Foundations worksheet. As you develop a research proposal, you must consider the ethical issues related to it.

Clearly state your one sentence research question in your PowerPoint

Detailed speakers notes are required.

Determine the ethical considerations related to the research question you developed as part of your Research Foundations worksheet.

You will need to address all 7 principles as well as cultural diversity AND address them specifically in terms of the research question you have created.

Many students create one slide addressing the ethical principle as a generalized concept for nursing research and then the following slide addresses the same principle specific to the research question and topic selected for the assignment.

Consider the 7 main principles of ethical research introduced in the learning activities section, Research Ethics Guidance (found at National Institutes of Health Patient Recruitment). Be sure to address the role cultural diversity might play in your research. The 7 main principles of ethical research are:

  • Social and clinical value
  • Scientific validity
  • Fair subject selection
  • Favorable risk-benefit ratio
  • Independent review
  • Informed consent
  • Respect for potential and enrolled subjects

Summarize the ethical issues related to your research topic by creating

o 18- to 20-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation

o The slides themselves should only contain essential information and as little text as possible. Do not design a slide presentation made up of long bullet points. Your speaker notes convey the details you would give if you were presenting. See the Create Speaker Notes section of the PowerPoint 2013 Training video.

Cite at least 1 peer-reviewed and 1 evidence-based resource according to APA guidelines. Use the APA Style Guide 7th ed.

Research Foundations Worksheet:

Research Topic, Problem and Question

Complete this worksheet to develop your research focus for this course. To help you better understand the main parts of research, this topic will be the basis for other assignments in the course.

Identify a Research Topic

Grove, S.K.&Gray, J. R.(2023) define a research topic as "a concept or broad issue that is important to nursing, such as chronic pain management, posttraumatic stress disorder assessment, prevention of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) spread, and health promotion strategies for children" (p.129).

Define your broad research topic in one to two sentences.Enter your response on a new line.

Identify your Research Problem

Grove, S.K.&Gray, J. R. (2023) explain that a research problem "is an area of concern in which there is a gap in the knowledge needed for nursing practice" (p.129).

Write your research problem and explain the significance and background in a 175- to 260-word narrative.Enter your response on a new line.

Develop your Research Question

Research questions should be short, probing, and take variables into account (Grove, S.K.&Gray, J. R.,2023). Although the PICOS format is not required, your question should address patient, intervention, comparisons, outcomes for practice, and study design.

Develop a one-sentence research question.Enter your response on a new line.
