Assignment task:
Develop a response to the following reading.
"Democracy's Third Wave" by Samuel P. Huntington
The responses should be critiques of the readings - not summaries. The authors you read are often engaged in a conversation with each other, whether implicitly or explicitly. Your goal is to take part in that conversation by attacking the readings when you see weaknesses, supporting them with specific examples when you see strengths, and most importantly by making comparisons or contrasts between the different arguments. If you are convinced that an argument is totally correct, think about potential criticisms, and discuss why you think those criticisms are misplaced or unconvincing. In general, think beyond "is this right or wrong?" and more about "under what conditions and assumptions is this right, and when could it be wrong, and why?" Preparing a structured response, synthesizing a coherent (but not necessarily a definitive) conclusion, and avoiding vagueness will be a great help in this regard.
