Review the microscopy videos on edpuzzle

Assignment:

1. In your notes, list the steps you used to focus the letter "e" slide under 40X total magnification. Review the microscopy videos on EdPuzzle, if you have trouble with this. What was the field of view (in mm) at this magnification? What would the field of view have been under 400X total magnification?

2. For each of the bacteria, the cyanobacteria and the protist "groups", give one beneficial interaction and one detrimental interaction they have with other organisms. Give a properly formatted genus example for both interactions.

3. Present a simple dichotomous key (i.e. use 1a, 1b, 2a, 2a designations) to separate bacteria, cyanobacteria and protists. Use only those characteristics you can easily observe in the lab. For more information on making a dichotomous key, see EdPuzzle video: 1. Making a dichotomous key.

4. Given this diagram (from the last page of the Essential Skills "book" from last week), and assuming the calibration was done under 40X total magnification, how big would an organism be using 400X total magnification if it was 35 ocular units long? Detail your rationale and show your work.
