I agree! In an effort to stand as a strict and caring parental figure, Miss Watson wanted to somehow earn money in order to financially provide for herself and Huck. This could have been the ultimate reason as to why she debated on whether or not to sell Jim in exchange for a substantial amount of money. Although Miss Watson promised to never sell Jim, it seems like, in this case, she values money more than him. "...she could git eight hund'd dollars for me, en it 'uz sich a big stack o' money she couldn' resis'. De widder she try to git her to say she wouldn't do it" (Twain 54). In this quote, Jim observes the widow attempting to discourage Miss Watson from selling him to another slave owner and separating him from his family; but, according to Jim, she still seemed hesitant to pass up such a great deal of money. As you have stated, Miss Watson loses the opportunity to earn this money once Jim runs away. Thus, she decided to entitle Jim to his freedom on her will in the time preceding her death. I also liked how you mentioned the idea of Miss Watson being the opposite of Huck, as Huck values Jim as a friend, rather than using him to obtain money for personal advantages. I enjoyed your ideology on this topic, as your ideas have added great points to the argument!
