Please read this case: Department of Commerce v. New York, No. 18-966, 588 U.S. ___ (2019), Then listen to the oral argument. To spark an interesting and balanced discussion on this Supreme Court case, I would like everyone with the last names beginning with A to J to make an initial post that defends the Department of Commerce's request to put a question that asked about the citizenship of all people who live in the United States on the 2020 Census questionnaire. For those of you with last names that begin with K to Z, please make an initial post that challenges the citizenship question. After you have made your initial post, we will discuss the following question: From a legal standpoint, do you agree or disagree with the Supreme Court's ruling? Why or why not? Remember to support your answers. It is ok to disagree respectfully.
