Assignment task:
1. Choose two quotes from Salman Rushdie's "The Prophet's Hair" that highlight a key issue or theme.
2. Write one academic paragraph with the following structure:
- A. Subtopic (1 sentence): Introduce the theme linked to your chosen quotes. Mention the author and the story's title. Find a common theme for both quotes and use a synonym or a comparison to express this theme without repeating your words.
- B. Main Lead-in (2 sentences): Provide context for the first quote with one sentence about the story's events leading to the quote and one sentence of your opinion.
- C. Main Quote (up to 49 words): Present the first quote. Cite it using the format: (Rushdie, page number).
- D. Analysis (3+ sentences): Offer your interpretation, focusing on how the quote supports your theme.
After the main quote analysis, introduce a secondary quote:
- B. Secondary Lead-in (1 sentence): Give context for the second quote.
- C. Secondary Quote (up to 49 words): Share the second quote. Cite it with just the page number.
- A. Analysis (1 sentence): Briefly explain how this quote also supports your theme.
- B. Referential Statement: Conclude with your view on the characters or situations in the quotes, finding a common element between them without making a formal announcement.
3. Quoting Rules:
- Include two quotes with full citation for the first and abbreviated citation for the second if they are from the same source and adjacent.
- You can arrange the quotes with the signal phrase before, after, splitting the quote, or with no signal.
- Keep the paragraph focused and concise, ideally not exceeding 20 sentences.
- Be creative within the constraints of the text's themes and content.
