Problem: In Todd Berliner and Dale Cohen's article "Illusion of Continuity: Active Perception and the Classical Editing System," (A Film Theorist's Companion, p. 182-204) it is suggested that two "edits" are occurring whenever we watch a movie: the edits that the editor made to the movie, and the "movie" that plays in our heads as we are watching it. There are two quotes that are particularly interesting that I'd like to think about. They are excerpted below. What do i think these quotes are indicating? 1) "Continuity... is an illusion, enabled by our brain's ability to conjoin fragmented images when such images follow certain patterns and logical principles." (185) 2) "Active perception and classical editing provide the raw data of perception, but the brain must still process the data in order to make it intelligible." (193) i WANT Relate MY opinion to the The Philadelphia Story AND "Raging Bull films.
