Perception of Color
Society's perception of color may reveal a poignant cultural filter, why do you think so?
a) For example: A simple glance through the dictionary tells us that our language uncovers a prescribed set of assumptions. The following are among the definitions in Webster's Seventh New Collegiate Dictionary of "black," "white," "man," and "woman."
b) "Black: soiled; dirty; evil; wicked; gloomy; sullen; hostile."
c) "White: fairness; free from blemish; innocent; pure."
d) "Man: a human being; the human race: mankind; individual person; anyone."
e) "Woman: an adult female person; womankind; distinctively feminine nature; a female servant or personal attendant (can be traced to the combining of wife + man human being)."
