You may want to reread material which explains Reader Response, including the chapter I've included in case your books haven't arrived yet. readerresponsechapter-2.pdf as well as the background information on Reader response. If you look at the assignments board, I've provided a large section which provides background information for each of the types of literary criticism.
With poetry, sense orientations are a good place to start: what grabs your senses in the poem? What questions does the title evoke? Where do the words take your imagination as you read them -- does something about the piece change when you read it aloud? How do you understand what this poem means? The Sand Merchant.rtf
These are at least 250-word responses. Use short passages of text, citing as appropriate, to enrich what you share with your reader.
Remember your heading, a title, and to write in the style of the literary criticism methods we're using presently!
