Discussion Post: Healthcare Policy and Ethics- Tuskegee Experiment
You learned about the 1932-1972 Tuskegee Experiment, in which 399 black men were subject to medical research by the U.S. Public Health Services without their consent. Use what you've learned about this experiment, and your textbook, to answer these questions:
o Researchers used utilitarian ethics to support their actions. Do their actions make sense when viewed from a utilitarian perspective? Why or why not?
o Explain why and how Kantian ethics might have changed the researchers' behavior.
o Propose a second ethical theory that might have saved these men from abuse.
The response should include a reference list. Using double-space, Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
