Created in the wake of the accounting scandals in the early 2000s (Enron and WorldCom being the largest), the U.S. federal law known as Sarbanes-Oxley has had its fair share of supporters and opponents. Like all legislation, some industries benefitted while others were harmed.
Research some common criticisms of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and weigh the benefits of the legislation. In 1-2 pages, discuss the need for the legislation and how it helped and hurt American businesses. Was it appropriate considering the times? How could it be improved? Should it be overhauled?
