Sustainable Engineering:
Paper instructions:
• Goals
o To identify a research project related to sustainable engineering
o To plan the project’s execution and present this plan in a clear and concise document
o To survey the literature for relevant studies for the purpose of better defining the scope and novelty of the project
o To provide an outline of expected results such that the framework and boundaries of your study are well understood
Structure of Proposal:
• Cover page
• Abstract (200-300 words)
• Introduction and Rationale (400-500 words)
• Project Objective (150-300 words)
• Literature Review
o Previous sustainability assessments for similar engineering technologies/activities. Discuss methods used and results.
o Discuss literature and/or reports on the engineering process(es) or product(s) that you are studying.
• Methods
o Outline of method (e.g., LCA, EIOLCA, MFA, etc.)
o Goal and scope definition
o System boundary definition
o Describe options being modeled
o Present a flow chart of life cycle, product cycle, economic value chain, etc.
o If doing an LCA, describe functional units and environmental impact categories
