Problem: What actions will you take (usually how you will demonstrate it within your practice), and 3. What are the patient outcomes you expect if you follow those recommendations. Recent research on upright posture and intracranial pressure (ICP) reveals that the mechanisms regulating changes in ICP still need to be fully understood. Their team has proposed a model to explain how postural changes affect ICP, which could have significant implications for treating neurological and neurosurgical conditions affecting ICP. We conducted a study with 11 healthy volunteers, measuring ICP, venous pressure, and internal jugular vein (IJV) collapse in seven different positions. Our model accurately described the behavior of postural ICP changes, with no difference between predicted and measured ICP for any tilt angle. Our improved understanding of postural ICP regulation could lead to better treatments for neurological and neurosurgical conditions. By continuing to explore this relationship, we hope to develop more effective treatments and improve the quality of life for those affected.
