Digital recording coupled with the Internet has changed the essence of sharing content. In the past, when someone purchased a record or tape and copied it, the quality of the recording diminished with each copy. In addition, the number of individuals with which a person could share the copy was limited to those within his or her physical location. Copyright owners have presented arguments for both protecting these recordings, and for allowing unlimited sharing.
Research both sides of the argument. Compare and contrast the benefits of sharing digital content and the desire to protect it. Which side do you believe has the more valid position? Why?
