Reflect on and improve own professional practice
Context:
Your supervisor and you are pleased with the professional skills development project. To further your knowledge-base and skills you discuss the benefits of learning more about Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander clan/tribe/group.
Instructions:
Identify and name the local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander clan/tribe/groups for the area of the college you attend or an area of your choice.
Part 2.1
Research some information about the culture and beliefs for that Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander clan/tribe/group.
Summarise the information that you would find helpful to build respectful relationships, if you were working with someone identifying as being of that cultural group.
Part 2.2
Include another page time lining significant historical dates and events using dot points and specific headings for the identified indigenous culture in the area of the college or the area of your choice.
Part 2.3
Research a social issue that affects Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people, that you would benefit from learning more about. Write at least half a page on what you find in your own words. This can be discussed with your trainer before you begin.
What to Submit:
1. Summary of cultural research to facilitate the development of relationships if you were working with someone from your chosen culture.
2. Dot point time line of significant events in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history.
3. At least half a page on a social issue affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
