RELIABILITY DESIGN

  • Scientifically allocate the reliability for the target product and subsystems, all the way down to their component and parts.
  • Conduct failure modes, effects, and criticality analysis to identify areas, which should receive concentrated design, research, and development effort.
  • Provide guidelines for critical reliability design reviews, manufacturing process and technique, quality control and human factors engineering practice.
  • Optimize  the  reliability  goal  that  should  be  designed  into  products  andsystems for minimum total cost to own, operate, and maintain for their lifetime.
  •  Evaluate the amount of redundancy to achieve the specified reliability.
  •  Trade-off studies among reliability, maintainability, availability, cost, weight, volume, operability, serviceability, and maintain for their lifetime.
  • Predict  at  the  design  stage,  the  reliability  being  designed  into  parts  and components via the stress/ strength interference approach and optimize reliability.
  •  Provide the basis for comparing two or more designs and for choosing the best from the reliability point of view.
  • Guiding corrective action decisions to minimize failure, reduce maintenance, and repair times and to eliminate over design as well as under design.
  • Determine whether the changes made affected the life of the equipment in the right direction and to the desired degree.
  • Prepare product reliability growth curves as a function of R&D, manufacturing, purchase quality, quality control, and testing
  • Determine best test plan to evaluate and verify the reliability of products-
  • Optimum sample quantity, and test time.
