A researcher wanted to investigate the performance of high school students in a foreign language. The study is composed of 30 students between the ages of 15 and 19, in two public high schools in Isfahan, Iran. Out of the whole sample, 15 were female, and 15 were male. The instruments which measured the participants language performance were final English exams they took at the end of the year. In addition to this data was collected for the following variables:
Locus of control (LOC): the extent to which individuals think they can control events. This variable is divided into three categories:
Internal LOC: when a person generally believes that control over events in one life lies within oneself.
External LOC: when a person generally believes that control over events in one life lies outside of oneself.
Both: when a person has both internal and external LOC.
(1= Internal LOC; 2 = External LOC; 3= Both)
Gender: (1= Male; 2= female)
Age level: this variable is further divided into three groups. The first group represents students between age 15 and 16. The second group represents 17 years old students and the third group represents students who are 18 or above 18.
