Problem: Respond to this: The question here is focused on regulation to control crimes on the Dark Web. My inclination is to consider the penalties for crimes on the internet. My thinking is that regulations could be added to attempt to address crimes on the dark web, but would it be effective? It seems that criminals will look for ways to get around regulation because they are motivated by money or the focus of the crime. In other words, regulation is not a sufficient deterrent. "The criminal side of the dark web relies on anonymizing technology and cryptocurrency to hide its trade in an assortment of contraband such as opioids and other drugs, bomb parts, weapons large and small, child pornography, social security numbers, body parts - even criminal acts for hire." (Taking on the Dark Web, 2020). But if we have penalties that demonstrate that those who commit and are caught in these crimes will be imprisoned for lengthy periods of time and must pay heavy fines.
