Assignment task: This essay is to be administered within the last few weeks of the semester. Students will be given 60 minutes to write the essays
Choose one of the topics below and write a thesis-driven, well-organized essay.
1. Describe your family. Explain where on a continuum from normal to dysfunctional your family fits and why you feel it fits in that particular category.
2. Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?
3. How do you think your life would have been different than it is if you had been born a member of the opposite sex?
4. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure.
5. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
6. One of the problems with stereotypes is that they are an incomplete representation of a population and individuals with that population. 'They reflect a shallow understanding of groups and the people in those groups. Choose a particular group and provide examples of common stereotypes about that group. Discuss examples of ways in which these stereotypes provide a misrepresentation or a shallow representation of the group and the individuals in that group.
