Recognizing process of cultural mixing

Problem:

According to Alan Knight, the Mexican Revolution aimed to start a new sense of nationhood by "recognizing the process of cultural (and racial) mixing that had created the unique Mexican people." If revolutionary nationalism was more inclusive than 19th-century liberalism, why did it also engender a new set of social exclusions based on race? And who were the groups that did not fit into the new revolutionary and mestizo nation?

Use Alan Knight's paper called Racism, Revolution, and Indigenismo
