Reading selections from piper kerman and tim kreider

Assignment task:

What is your response to this peer? In the reading selections from Piper Kerman, and Tim Kreider they both share two vastly different yet very personal experiences from their lives. Piper Kerman writes about her experience of entering the prison system and Tim Krieder writes about how much he loves and adores his cat. Both of these stories are vastly different in not only subject but in tone too, as Kerman's story is much more somber and tense. Kreider's story on the other hand is light hearted and funny. As the author, Piper Kerman, describes the sadness and fear she feels from not knowing when she will be able to see her fiance again, as well as how devastating it feels to be reminded of such is a snippet of the fear she shows in her writing. ("Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison", 2010). In contrast, Tim Kreiser writes ""You're in love with that cat!" my then-girlfriend Margot once accused me. To be fair, she was a very attractive cat." ("A Man and His Cat", 2014, para.15). How the author decides to sarcastically comment that the cat was very attractive breathes humor into this sentence, and this is not the only case where the author does this. This practice Kreiser uses infuses the story with a light hearted tone throughout. Comparably the two authors make great use of words to convey their themes, however the many comparisons that Kreiser uses to cultural references throughout his text; I feel, makes the story's tone much more effective than Kerman's story.
