Introduction for paper:
The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty is a marketing campaign that was launched in 2004 as a response to the statistical realization of the average woman's self-confidence. Mentioned in their advertisement titled ‘Love Your Hair,' "eight out of ten women feel pressured to wear their hair a certain way." This particular ad builds up to this statistic by presenting six women who each have their own story of how they have felt this pressured. Half-way through the video, though, the tone becomes bright and joyful once the women realize that their hair is naturally beautiful. Dove's ‘Love Your Hair' campaign entertains the idea that independent women should challenge current stereotypes about beauty and celebrate who they naturally are with the help of Dove's products. While the promotion tactics in this ad are more subliminal than typical, there are several ways in which Dove latently promotes their company through this socially progressive message.
