Questionnaire Design:
Data is normally collected in a survey by use of a questionnaire. Careful attention is necessary in the preparation of the questionnaire's design and layout, as this will be a significant influence on the quantity and quality of the responses which are obtained.
The design process
The process of preparing a questionnaire comprises a number of separate stages, as shown below.
(a) Identify the problem to be studied and the specific information required.
(b) Select the respondents, using an appropriate technique.
(c) Determine the questions needed to provide each item of information, and possible answers.
(d) Decide how to analyse replies.
(e) Add instructions for respondents and/or interviewers.
(f) Carry out a pilot test of the questionnaire.
(g) Review and finalise.
