Question on restorative justice


Probation and Parole officers typically have a larger caseload than can be properly managed. Smith is not the only offender that is in your files. The judge has sent you a file on an offender who is waiting to be sentenced for property crimes. He wants an alternative to simple incarceration, and is allowing the victims some input into the type of sentence. You have been asked to speak to the victims and present to them and option for a sentence that will allow for restorative justice.

The basic background on the offender is as follows: Joe Jones is a 30 year old male, married with one child. He was recently laid off from his job, where he worked for 8 years. He is skilled at his job but was unable to find employment quickly. He committed 6 burglaries and sold the items to pawn shopts and individual people . He is willing to work, and wants to repay the victims and put this behind him.

1. Provide and alternative to simple incarcertaion, explain what you would tell the victim and why, Also support your decision by explaining how you came to this conclusion.
