Question- Molecular Bromine can add to a conjugated diene giving a dibromo compound with both the 1,2- addition regiochemistry and the 1,4- addition regiochemistry. Draw both products.
bromo-1, 4-diene plus 1 equiv Br2 and CHCl3
Can someone explain with arrows what this mechanism is? I thought that each pi bond would open up to take in 1 Br each. Yet that's incorrect, is it that merely 1 pi bond opens and it gets 2 Br?
