Quality of orientation program for new employees

Problem:

Proposed research problem statement There is a lack of knowledge about the relationship between the orientation outcome and the quality of orientation program for new employees. The assumption is that the skill level and experience of their preceptors determines their competence and ability to work independently once off orientation. This study seeks to investigate the effects of inadequate preceptorship and orientation programs on new employee's skill development and readiness to work independently. Having a skilled and experienced preceptor is expected to result in better orientation outcome. Preceptorship is a one-on-one training and support program for new employees. Orientation programs provide new employees with information about the organization and their job duties (Irwin et al., 2018). Inadequate preceptorship and orientation programs can have a negative impact on new employee skill development and readiness to work independently. Inadequate preceptorship and orientation programs can leave new employees feeling unprepared and overwhelmed which in turn can lead to stress, anxiety, burnout, and mistakes (Kime, 2017).
