MGT656 – Quality Management and Continuous Improvement

Mia,

In every class, the teacher provides a group project that pairs you with other students to complete a single assignment. The great part about group assignments is that they encourage teamwork which is important in the workforce. Hence, individuals learn to work in teams effectively in order to complete tasks.

Like many of our fellow students, I have had some horrible experiences with group assignments. Therefore, I feel there should be some improvements implemented in order to provide students a better experience and change their overall prospective of these assignments. If this is a common issue with the majority of the AIU students, the first is to encourage students to fill out surveys in order to determine their wants and needs. After this data has been calculated, I think the school board members, professors, and directors should get together to brainstorm the best way to incorporate the group assignment in a format that does hold all student accountable for the slack of their group partners. Remember, this is online so there is no way to have face-to-face involvement with the students in questions. With that being said, students that are performing well in the class should have to risk their class average due to the negligence of their classmates.

In conclusion, I would agree that this is a great representation of the real world, but employees can be reprimanded or fired for neglecting their responsibilities. I feel the classes should be treated the same. Others should not be held accountable for their peers, and in the case this happens, the completed sections and individual contributions should be graded. Therefore, if one of the students fails to provide their portion, the group is not left with an incomplete assignment a day or hours before the project is due. With that being said, I understand the concept, but it can be somewhat unfair to other achieving students.
