Both articles need to contain data collection or analysis. In the case of a qualitative article, it is qualitative data that needs to be collected and analyzed.

Qualitative data is usually collected via interviews, focus group studies, document analysis, etc.

Some of you sent me the so-called "theoretical" or "conceptual" articles - articles that review existing theories or papers on a particular topic.

These are not research articles since they don't involve any data collection and analysis
