Q. Why we need paving in design of a plant?
Concrete paving should be provided under any equipment where flammable or hazardous liquids may be spilled during routine operation or maintenance activities. Regardless of what the surrounding ground cover is, at these critical locations concrete is to be used exclusively, with ground drainage to accommodate. This includes:
• To the outside edge of the supporting column piers of such equipment as bottom oil-fired or combustible-liquid-containing furnaces and elevated structures supporting coke drums, etc.
• Under pipe racks where low point draining, sampling or blinds insertion is frequently performed.
• Around catalyst-containing vessels.
• Around groups of two or more pumps located outdoors.
• Around compressors and their related servicing equipment (e.g. lube oil consoles).
• Around equipment in dirty service that requires frequent turnaround maintenance.
• Around loading facilities for flammable or hazardous liquids.
