Q. What is Pressure Testing?
Pressure test shall be performed after completion of all welds and the PWHT of the boiler.
Prior to final inspection and pressure test, the inside and outside of the boiler drum and inside of the pipes and tubes shall be thoroughly cleaned and shall be free from all slag, dirt, grit, weld spatter, pieces of metal, paint, oil, etc. Solvents used for cleaning shall be free of chlorides. Equipment shall be painted or primed prior to hydrostatic test.
No preliminary pressure test, regardless of pressure, shall be made on any part of the boiler, prior to any required heat treatment operation.
The use of shellac, glue compounds, lead, etc. on gaskets is not permitted. Pneumatic test of boiler or boiler components are strictly forbidden.
Gaskets used for manways and other nozzles with blinds for hydrostatic test shall be left in positions for transport. One separate set of new gaskets shall be supplied and shipped together with the boiler.
