There are four states of matter: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. In this chapter, we will study liquids and solids which are called condensed matter.
Gases have no definite shape or volume and are easily compressed.
Liquids have a definite volume but no definite shape. As a result, liquids tend to flow and be incompressible.
Solids have a definite volume and shape and are practically incompressible.
The Kinetic Molecular Theory is applicable to all states of matter. We will extend the KMT to liquids and solids in the following sections.
