q selection of metallic materialsthis engineering

Q. Selection of metallic materials?

This Engineering Practice has been written to assist those involved in the construction of new equipment and for the maintenance of existing equipment, in their selection of high temperature service materials.

At this time, only the selection of metallic materials for specific high temperature and possibly corrosive applications has been included. Other materials may be addressed in subsequent Engineering Practices.

Each material of construction presented is discussed with respect to its high temperature properties. Also included are special precautions to be considered as well as information on welding requirements.

This Engineering Practice is intended to assist the reader in selecting a material that offers suitable high temperature creep properties in various environments for long-term service life. The terms, elevated temperature and high temperature, are commonly used synonymously. For this standard, the elevated temperature range will be defined as 700° to 1200°F (370° to 650°C). The high temperature range typically begins at 1200°F (650°C) but when referred to in general terms will include the elevated temperature range. Both temperature ranges will be discussed in this standard.
