Adding 1 in 9's complement produces 10's complement. 10's complement of 0256 = 9743+1 = 9744.
Please note on adding the number in its 9's complement we get 9999 (maximum possible number which can be signified in four decimal digit number range) while on adding number and its 10's complement we obtain 10000 (number just higher than range. This number can't be represented in four digit representation.)
