Q. Explain the applications of emitter follower.
Because of high input impedance and low output impedance an emitter follower is capable of transferring maximum power from the high impedance source to low impedance load. When an emitter follower is employed for this purpose it is called a buffer amplifier. The emitter follower is more preferred than a step-down transformer for impedance matching because it is more convenient and it also provides a better frequency response. Emitter follower can also be deployed in circuits where high current gain is required without increase in voltage gain.
