Assessment task - Reflective Essay
Purpose: You are to consider the tools used in this unit (Johari window, MBTI, TA and DISC) and reflect how they have helped you to reflect on your own attitudes and behaviours in terms of conflict and communication. You need to provide at least one solid example of an experience in which you managed conflict using your personal understanding of the models. You can identify in your reflection the tools that helped most to identify your areas of concern and what you have learned about yourself.
Lecturer Notes - Wilmot and hocker (2011,p 11) best describe conflict as a feltt struggle between two or more interdependent individuals over perceived incompatible differences in beliefs, value and goals, or over differences in desires for esteem, control and connectedness

Competing, collaborating, Avoiding, Accommodating
People who accommodate are unassertive and very co-operative.
Avioding-People who avoid conflict are generally unassertive and un-cooperation.
Avoiding the conflict entirely by avoiding
Collaborating- they are both assertive and co-operative.
Assert own views while also listening to other views and welcoming sifferences.
Seek a win win outcome
Identify underlying concerns of a conflict
Requires time and effort from both parties.
Competing
Assert themselves and do not co-operate while pursuing their own concerns at anothers expense,
Take on a win-lose approach
Do not rely on cooperation with other party to resolve issue
Compromising
It's a lose-lose situation
Moderately assertive and moderately co-operative
Situation can be different to manage conflict management style
Knowing yourself and fully understand each situation will help you understand conflict management style needed.
Assertiveness -All of us insists on being treated fairly - to stand up for our rights without violating the rights of other.
