PURPOSE OF EVALUATION:
The purpose of evaluation of service is to answer the questions, "To what extent and how well did the programme meet the objectives of the service?' It is concerned with both effectiveness (outcome) and efficiency (methods). For example, if a sanitation programme in housing related to cleaning up the great majority of housing violations, it &ght have been highly effective. If, however, the cost of inspection was unduly high, because of poor scheduling or if the preparation of records used an inordinate amount of time, the programme might not have been an efficient one. Evaluation is necessary for
- The modification of the programme to be at par with the problem arising in the community or with the felt need of the community.
- Ensuring objectives for the continuing education of the staff members for their development.
- Serving as basis for diagnosis of professional problems and potentialities.
- Forming a basis for the future plan of the programme.
- Helping in the research studies for innovation in the community health nursing services.
- Providing a review of the standards of work for both the supervisor and staff. This may serve to emphasize, clarify or modify existing standards.
