Tuckman and Jensen's Team Development Model (1977) categorized groups into five stages:
1) Forming Stage: Members determine their place in the organization, go through a testing or orientation process, and are more independent.
2) Storming Stage: The organization has members who react negatively to the demands of whatever tasks need to be accomplished, conflicts rise, and there is a high level of emotion.
3) Norming Stage: In-group feelings and cohesiveness develop. Members accept the rules of behavior and discover new ways to work together.
4) Performing Stage: The group is very functional in dealing with tasks and responsibilities. They have worked through issues of membership and roles, and focus their efforts to achieve their goals.
5) Adjourning Stage: Groups bring finality to the process.
For this discussion, provide a reflection on the individuals in a team (or group) situation which you have encountered in your work environment (either in the past or present).
Based on Tuckman and Jensen's Team Development Model (five stages), describe how the team has gone through each.
If you have not participated on a team or group, provide a hypothetical description of a team's progress through the stages.
