Cardiovascular is the topic that appeals to me because it is a very common illness and I still did not know the seriousness of it until I read this topic. When I went for a check up, the doctor told me that my cholesterol level is high and since my father has heart disease, I would have a high chance of getting it too and that is not a statement for a 20-year-old want to hear. It is scary that the book says that over 50% of victims die before reaching the hospital, another 15% during treatment and additional 15% over the next few years because when I was 18 years old, my father got a heart attack. Each year, about 25 percent of middle-aged American deaths are caused by cardiovascular disease. The most extreme case of this illness is heart attack, which is the blockage of normal blood supply to an area of the heart, usually brought on by a blood clot in one or more plaque-filled coronary arteries and the intense pain results as muscle in the affected region dies. Today, cardiovascular disease can be treated in many ways including coronary bypass surgery, medication and peacemakers to regulate heart rhythm. Some risk factors, such as heredity, advanced age, and being male cannot be changed but I can prevent heart disease or slow its progress and since I am not a smoker and not overweight, so, I could focus on other factors that could trigger this disease, like, exercising regularly and reducing hostility and other forms of psychological stress.
