You are the manager of a U.S. firm where the majority of corporate executives are female. Your firm is very proud of the numerous accolades and awards it has received for its efforts and success in promoting and advancing women in corporate America. The next area of expansion will be the Middle East… the timing is right and they need our services. Assess the best candidate for the initial meeting with your foreign partners on this expansion. The first candidate is Ann, who has 10 years of experience and an excellent record of success expanding your efforts in 10 other nations. Another candidate is her assistant, Joe, who is moving up quickly in the company, but is new to the global division. He has worked, as an assistant, on only one other global project, and he has never led a project on his own. You have some confidence that Joe can handle the expansion. Normally, you would not consider Joe for the lead on this project, if you were not concerned that your female executive may not be well received by your business partners in the region, all of whom are male.
