Problem:
In this situation I would first speak directly to the mother about the concerns of using this procedure with her son. I can provide her with research and other resources that promote safe and effective behavior strategies used in ABA practice. Lastly I would try to modify the treatment plan to ensure evidence based practices are being used. Not only this but her child's needs are being met and any ethical concerns are being taken into consideration. In code of ethics 3.01 responsibility to the client I find this situation to relate as I look to keep the clients best interest and do no harm. As the child is my client ensuring that his safety and needs are being met and addressed through effective evidence based treatments is the most important. Also code of ethics 2.01 providing effective treatment is in play as its important I address the matter and use interventions that have research to back up its effectiveness.
