Project Process Planning and Control - Group Assignment
In this assignment, you are required to develop a business case for the project case study given below. The case study is based on a real project, the e-business implementation of TecPro, which is available from www.enterprise-ireland.com/ebusiness
Case Study- Overview
Over a period of 20 years, Tecpro (www.tecpro.ie) has established itself as a leading supplier of test engineering equipment for the electronics industry. However, with lowering labour costs in the Far East having greatly impacted the global electronics industry, Tecpro now recognizes a need to develop e-business capabilities if it was to survive.
A cross-functional, internal team has been assembled in orderto outline the problems and define a set of objectives. These are defined as:
• increase their profile in international markets
• improve the speed and rigour of the design and specification process
• decrease lead time through improved internal efficiencies, communication
Together with consultants, Computer Controlled Applications (CCA), a strategic e-business plan needs to be formulated. The company needs to identify investment options, and needs to make a decision as to whether
• Invest in an e-business solution, and write it internally (in-house development)
• Invest in an e-business solution, and contract an external software vendor to implement it
• Not to invest in an e-business solution at all.
The market reaction such an e-business strategy will receive is unknown at present. However, the company senior management feels that the company's chances of expansion will reduce very significantly without an e-business strategy.
